Virtual Holidays & How To Enjoy With Loved Ones

It may not be practical to join together or travel this year for holidays. However, virtual holiday gatherings are an easy, free and safe way for everyone to be together. The coming days will be challenging, but we are fortunate to live in a time where technology can keep us all connected!
The following is list of popular free video systems to help you stay connected this holiday:

Fun Ideas for Virtual Holidays + Video Calls

We want to help make your virtual visit a little more fun and unforgettable. Here are some ideas we’ve pulled together to try:

  • Create a “shared experience”. Plan to prepare the same dish or have the same music in the background. Everyone could even plan to watch the same show or movie that night.
  • Send care packages. Mail or drop off treats and supplies to help guests feel part of the fun. Since you can’t crowd around one table to split a pumpkin pie, maybe you and your loved one can bake mini pumpkin pies instead! Consider dropping them off on doorsteps or make matching DIY centerpieces for everyone to display in their video.
  • Ask every person to “bring” something to contribute. For example, everyone could say something they are grateful for or have each person get out their family photo album and share virtually.
  • Play a game. There are plenty of virtual games out there or you could even send each family member a jigsaw puzzle or a favorite board game to all play together.

There are some other virtual options that you can set up for your senior loved one as well. For example, many of the major museums have digitally uploaded pieces of art so you can view them on the internet. These museums have created virtual visits to their galleries so everyone can experience some of the best art in the world. From Andy Warhol to Picasso, your senior loved one can virtually tour some of the best museums and their collections. If you have a music lover there are options there as well. Your loved one can see the Seattle Symphony perform on its YouTube page or The Metropolitan Opera is doing free live streams of masterpieces by the likes of Mozart, Verdi, and Strauss.
